Bayside Park Improvements

Turf installation has been installed. The newly installed turf needs two weeks to establish. Please respect caution signs to stay off the turf.

Bayside Park reopened on September 17, 2021.  

San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (SFBCDC) is a California state commission dedicated to the protection, enhancement, and responsible use of the San Francisco Bay. Updates were made to the Bayside Park plan as a part of the permit approval process with SFBCDC.

Bayside Park is closed for renovation. Department of Public Works began work on April 28, 2021. Construction completion date is estimated for sometime in August.

Department of Public Works completed phase 1 tree removal, in preparation for summer construction. After a bird nesting survey, the trees were removed in winter, to ensure spring nests would not be disturbed.

The Board of Supervisors reviewed and approved the DPW Director's recommendation to award competitive bid to Oak Grove Construction.

Department of Public Works and Parks staff presented Bayside Park design to the Parks and Open Space Commission.

For 50 years, Bayside Park has offered public access to stunning bayfront views and open space. Uses of this neighborhood park include:

• Enjoying view of the Bay
• Shady seating on benches and lawns
• Walking through the park with distance from road noise
• Picnicking
• Rest stop for cyclists
• Fishing

Asphalt degradation has made the park inaccessible to Park visitors. This project seeks to rectify the disrepair and deterioration of the existing facility to adhere to accessibility laws and regulations, to ensure that all Marin residents may enjoy this community resource.

This project is being funded by the Marin County Disability Access Program. The Department of Public Works is leading this project with the support of Marin County Parks.

• Make park pathways and amenities universally accessible.

• Accessibility grading
• Accessible parking space
• New site furnishings
• New site appropriate landscaping
• Stormwater collection to prevent surface run-off to the Bay and promote groundwater recharge
• New water efficient irrigation
• Vehicle access to San Rafael Sanitary District Pump #24

The surrounding community was actively involved in envisioning this project.

• Six digital notices on Next Door, between December 2019 and February 2021, with DPW contact information
• Letters mailed to residents living within 100’ of the park
• Emails and on-site discussions with the Pt. San Pedro Road Coalition
• Emails and on-site discussions with residents living in nearby neighborhoods
• Presentation to Parks and Open Space Commission on 9/17/2020, with opportunity for public comments
