Bridge and Adjacent Area Closed For Construction
The bridge and adjacent path areas will be closed from September 2024 through January 2025, during construction. For your safety, please respect closure signs.
Project Description
This restoration project will replace a section of the existing path and bridge with an elevated 10’ wide ADA-compliant path, bridge, and boardwalk to span the marsh.
A decades-old bridge is located in Creekside Marsh, the wetland between Bon Air Road and the Corte Madera Creek multiuse path. This wooden bridge and path connect Marin Health Medical Center, Marin Catholic High School, and Hal Brown Park with nearby residential communities. High tides frequently cover bridge support beams, coming within inches of the bridge deck. High tides also flood sections of the adjacent asphalt path. Sea-level rise, and more frequent storms related to climate change, are expected to have an increasing impact.
The scope of the project includes:
- Remove 2,300 square feet of existing asphalt pathway, the wood bridge, and its foundations
- Install a 120-foot long prefabricated bridge, made of Corten steel, with wood decking
- Install a 47-foot long wooden boardwalk and new asphalt path connecting to the bridge
- Raise the elevation of these structures to address more frequent flooding
- Provide ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) accessibility
- Enhance tidal flow and wetland habitat
