Eagle Rim Trail

Trail adoption and decommission in Mount Burdell Preserve

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2019

Eagle Rim Trail is open for hiking and cycling. Work has been completed.

Project Description

Marin County Parks proposes to adopt Eagle Rim Trail as a 4,815 foot long single track trail with an average gradient of 9.34 percent, designated for hikers and bikers. The project also proposes to decommission three unsanctioned trails totaling 3,022 linear feet, to reduce erosion and habitat fragmentation.

The proposed realignments, drainage features, and other actions to protect the environment and improve the user experience would improve the sustainability of the trail consistent with the Road and Trail Management (RTMP) policies, applicable best management practices, and trail design standards. These measures would substantially reduce impacts from erosion and runoff into nearby drainages, reducing sedimentation into the Novato Creek Watershed.

Marin County Parks oversees management of Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD) lands. This project was identified as a priority in the 2017 road and trail designation process and has been included in the Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget. This project would be funded by Measure A.

Objectives

  • Improve existing Eagle Rim Trail to a more hydrologically and geologically sustainable trail.
  • Construct lower bowl reroute.
  • Install drainage improvements to produce a more sustainable and hydraulically stable trail.
  • Decommission trails 11251, 11116, and 11060, totaling 3,022 linear feet.
  • Install fencing and signage, as needed.
  • Designate Eagle Rim Trail for hikers and cyclists.
